While doing evangelism in Kiev we met a soldier from Serbia. His name is Drazhen and he spoke good English. He is in his mid thirties and as a young man had served his country in the military. Afterwards he joined the French Foreign Legion and now he came to join up with the Ukrainian forces.

He said that since he was already a soldier all he needed to do was to become familiar with the weaponry and he would soon be on the front lines.

As such he was waiting on his contract. I asked how much he would be paid. He said a little over $3000 monthly, but it wasn’t about the money.

I told him I was a man of prayer, and as such how would he want me to pray for him. He said, “Pray that I will do the right thing at the right time. Pray that I will fight for truth and justice.”

Our conversation continued and after we prayed I took this photo.

The thing that interested me was his statement about fighting for truth and justice. There is a path to mercy and it is always through truth and justice. A lie will never provide the foundation necessary to obtain justice and mercy.

The truth is that we have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Justice was paid in full when Jesus died on the cross for our sins. He rose from the dead for our justification. Because the demand for truth and justice have been satisfied mercy can be offered.

In John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

I expect to be in Ukraine through the end of August. Keep me in your prayers. Kevin
